Our group of 8 designers crafted an all-encompassing guide to Athens tailored for incoming Freshmen. The challenge at hand, derived from our research, involved bridging the gap between UGA students and the greater Athens community. Out of this, the concept of ‘Bored In Athens’ was born.
Project Objective: Create a guide to Athens with both print & digital deliverables
Tools: Figma, Illustrator, Indesign
We divided into print and digital teams. The printed version of our guide serves as a resource for freshmen seeking activities in Athens during idle moments—specifically, when they’re inside, outside, hungry, or just bored in Athens.

This is achieved through a series of games, incorporating the element of chance, creating an interactive guide that explores EVERYTHING you can do within the Athens community.

In tandem with the printed guide, the digital team developed an app for seamless navigation to each guide-listed location. This app serves as a post-guide encounter and is an extension of the guide’s content. They are meant to coexist (just like the UGA & Athens communities!).

Unlike the games in the print version, this app engages freshmen with an anonymous image feed for uploading pictures after visiting each location—an additional solution to bridging the gap.

The ‘Bored in Athens’ app addresses our audience with vibrant colors and playful icons, providing a fun and user-friendly experience. It not only resolves navigation challenges but also reinforces the concept of connecting freshmen with the community beyond UGA.
As a member of the digital team, I played a role in shaping a user experience that mirrors the aesthetics of the printed guide. I made sure to incorporate vital elements from print layouts to establish a cohesive brand identity, all the while introducing fresh elements to uphold the app’s integrity.

I assisted my team in creating the initial wireframe that would later set the foundation of the final app.

I also played a role in prototyping and animating, offering a realistic preview of how the app would operate in the real world.
As a team, we learned to collaborate effectively and produce outstanding deliverables in a timely manner. In my role as a team member, I developed the ability to work alongside fellow designers, sharing relevant ideas to solve our team’s original problem. This project not only advanced my design skills but also contributed to my professional development.
